Visiting Malta is always a good idea. There are a lot of events in store for our little islands over the next couple of months. Here we’ve collected the most exciting of the lot.
Top event: Isle of MTV
When? 27th June, music week between 27th June – 1st July
Where? Floriana Granaries
Now in its 12th consecutive year, this is Malta’s biggest music event and it’s totally free! Apart from the main night, the music week involves club nights and sunset beach parties around the Maltese Islands. Performers are still to be announced, but with acts like Lady Gage & Snoop Dogg gracing the stage in earlier editions, we’re sure it’s going to be amazing.
Malta International Fireworks Festival
When? 21-30 April
Where? Xaghra (Gozo), Marsaxlokk, and Valletta
This year is the 17th edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival. We love the tagline: “where fire & culture meet”! The grand finale, taking place in Valletta, should be particularly fantastic with a fireworks show synchronised to live singing and orchestral music. Video
Picasso & Miro exhibition
When? 7th April – 30th June
Where? Grandmaster’s Palace, Valletta
Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró visit Malta, in the impressive Grandmaster’s Palace. This collection of 100 of Picasso’s etchings and 40 of Miro’s paintings is entitled “The Flesh and the Spirit“.
Rock the South
When? 20-22 April
Where? Zion Reggae Bar, Marsascala
The longest running alternative music festival in Malta is back for its 7th edition. Among the local music acts performing over the three nights are Beangrowers, YEWS, Fuzzhoneys, KNTRL and many more. Tickets from here.
Opera in Gozo – Norma
When? 28th April
Where? Aurora Theatre, Victoria, Gozo
The heartbreaking 2-act opera Norma by Bellini will be staged in Gozo as part of the Gaulitana Festival of Music – now in its 12th edition. The Gozo opera is an annual attraction which draws Maltese & international opera fans in for a night of music and theatre. Norma is part of the OPERA+ weekend, which is three days of cultural events around Gozo.
Medieval Mdina
When? 5th & 6th May
Where? Mdina
Step back in time within the walled city of Mdina and you’ll find knights battling for fair maidens, costumed parades, and even a falcon or two on display. Attendance is free.
Earth Garden

Where? Ta’ Qali
Set in the Ta’ Qali national park, Earth Garden is an alternative music festival with live acts of ska, dub, reggae and electronic music. It is also a space for spirituality and healing, offering attendees a community space for creativity. Tickets
